Dr. Owen Miller

Born in Waikari hospital, I grew up in Hawarden and attended Hawarden Area School (now Hurunui College).

I was late to medicine, instead starting out as a sound technician in film and TV. I then decided to go on ‘the big OE’, initially as a counsellor at Camp America then on to the UK. A planned two year adventure soon turned into 17 years after I met my wife Liz. While in the UK, I worked as a carer, went back to high-school as a 30 year old before obtaining my medical degree in Cornwall, UK in 2013.

As soon as I could, I persuaded my wife to move our young family back here to Amberley where my passion for rural medicine could be put to good use. My other areas of interest include men’s health, palliative and end of life care and I hope to undertake further training in childhood allergies in the near future.
